چکیده
1. Superparasitism has been rendered many times as detrimental for fitness, although there are examples in which the competing winning larvae compensate its development. Here, we studied if, host-parasitoid system Cyclocephala signaticollis (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) – Mallophora ruficauda (Diptera: Asilidae), have compensatory mechanisms during development to overcome competition. 2. Through a combination of behavioural and artificial parasitism protocols, investigated if host instar or time between events influences probability larva In addition, effect that superparasitism terms some fitness traits like sex ratio, size, shape. 3. Our results showed M. differential larval survival according availability. found increased, second lowers chance win competition favour first arriving larva. Larvae under develop at similar rate compared had not experienced hosts. Finally, our show wing shape is different groups, this could influence flight courtship. 4. study suggests an advantageous strategy circumstances it might adult performance with related behaviours.

Facultative Hyperparasitism: Extreme Survival Behaviour of the Primary Solitary Ectoparasitoid, Dinarmus basalis
This study investigated the egg-laying behaviour of ectoparsitoid, Dinarmus basalis Rondani (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae), females when faced with a prolonged deprivation of suitable hosts leading to extreme 'oviposition pressure'. The egg-laying behaviour of virgin D. basalis females was tested with Callosobruchus maculatus (F.) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) hosts previously parasitized by the conspec...
متن کاملSex-specific reaction norms to intraspecific larval competition in the mosquito Aedes aegypti.
As the relationship between a given life-history trait and fitness is not necessarily the same for the two sexes, an 'intersexual ontogenetic conflict' may arise. We analysed the phenotypic reaction to intraspecific larval competition of the mosquito, Aedes aegypti, asking: (i) Do both sexes pay the cost of competition with the same life-history traits and are they equal competitors? (ii) Is th...
متن کاملInfluence of plant host species on intraspecific competition during infection by Aspergillus flavus
Compositions of Aspergillus flavus populations determine the extent to which crops become contaminated with aflatoxins. In the current study, influences of diverse crop hosts on competition among A. flavus isolates were quantified with pyrosequencing. Maize, cotton, soyabean and sorghum supported different levels of sporulation, but intraspecific differences in sporulation were not detected on ...
متن کاملThe evolution of larval foraging behaviour in response to host plant variation in a leaf beetle
The evolutionary causes of variation in host specialization among phytophagous insects are still not well understood and identifying them is a central task in insect /host plant biology. Here we examine host utilization of the chrysomelid beetle Oreina elongata that shows interpopulation variation in the degree of specialization. We focus on larval behaviour and on what selection pressures may ...
متن کاملMosquito Feeding Affects Larval Behaviour and Development in a Moth
Organisms are attacked by different natural enemies present in their habitat. While enemies such as parasitoids and predators will kill their hosts/preys when they successfully attack them, enemies such as micropredators will not entirely consume their prey. However, they can still have important consequences on the performance and ecology of the prey, such as reduced growth, increased emigrati...
